This document suggests the consideration of action to be taken by the IMO Maritime Safety Committee with regard to the communication of information by Parties to the 1978 STCW Convention and needs to be of serious concern to all holders of South African CoC’s. However, considering which other Flags aren’t on the revised list either it is difficult to see this going through – the likes of Panama / Philippines and many other strong shipping/labour counties are also affected – it would cause chaos! This document certainly shows the urgent need for SAMSA to sort things out as a priority.
