Dear Colleague,
You are hereby requested to assist in completing the attached questionnaire which form part of the wider scope study titled ‘Developing a management framework to position a maritime nation, as a preferred seafarer labour supplier: A case for South Africa’.
This survey targets South African Seafarers, Officer and above, and seek to address objective 1 (To identify challenges experienced by seafarers regarding placement) of the 4 objectives contained in the study.
Other objectives included in the study are:
- To determine how technology impacts the role of the seafarer and how this changing role should be managed.
- To establish how other maritime nations have developed their seafarers and built their competitiveness as preferred seafarer supplying nations.
- To determine why it is difficult to place South African seafarers

Your participation will assist greatly in contributing to the local and global development of the profession.
In order to reach as many South African Seafarers as is possible, and to increase the accuracy and validity of the study, you may share this questionnaire with your other qualifying colleagues.
